Kate Madrid Author of "Zip"

Kate Madrid is a writer, marketer, and obsessive reader. She has been known to miss a flight (or two) when so engrossed in a book that she didn’t hear the call for boarding.

Originally from Michigan, Kate headed east for college where she received a B.A. in political science at Smith College. While at Smith, she spent her junior year abroad in Paris where she developed a passion for baguettes, croissants, and all things French. After graduating from Smith, Kate worked in the advertising industry in New York City, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. After burning out selling diapers and laundry detergent, she decided she wanted to dive deeper into her creative side and become an actress. But her practical mid-western roots took hold and off to business school she went. She received her M.B.A. in marketing from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. With her practical degree in hand, Kate traded snow for rain and moved to Seattle to work in the tech industry. 

Still wanting to exercise the creative part of her brain, Kate outlined her first novel, Zip, while commuting an hour each day into work. She still lives in Seattle with her husband, two children, and an Australian labradoodle.
